Briançon is recognised for its exceptional artistic and historical heritage. The Vauban fortifications are listed as UNESCO World Heritage. Every detail of the old town with the collegiate church and gargoyles is remarkable, as are the Alpes Cottian geopark and the alpine botanical garden.
The Briançon area is famous for skiing and other snow sports in the winter and other mountain activities in the summer with resorts like the famous Serre Chevalier, and the oldest, Montgenèvre the Dean and even La Grave-la Meije.
Suitable for exploring on foot or cycling, the Briançon area also features the Great Cols du Galibier, Lautaret, l’Échelle or the Izoard, and wild and untouched Clarée valley.
